What is balayage?
Balayage is a colouring technique originally developed by the French in the 1970s. Rather than using the traditional foiling or cap highlighting techniques, it’s a freehand technique where the colour is applied by hand. Balayage has its best results in hair below the shoulders but it can also be used in even the shortest bob or pixie crop. A plethora or different effects can be achieved from soft, natural highlights. And the beauty of balayage is that it is quite a low maintenance hairstyle. This is one of the reasons for its popularity.
The Balayage Process
The process for epic balayage can vary slightly depending on the desired result. There are numerous methods for applying balayage colour to your hair, because after all hair is art. Some methods call for the use of colouring individual strands with a brush and backing card. Others may like to split the sections with foil, and some like to tease the hair first then freehand paint the ends. Whichever method your stylists prefers to use, you will still no doubt end up with amazing results. When a balayage colour is finished off with big loose curls or that tousled beachy look it really sets it apart from other hairstyles.
Should I Try It?
Almost anyone will suit a balayage hairstyle, and many clients choose balayage for the amazing sun-kissed look it can give. Paired with the benefit of being more economical (maintenance) than typical foils. It’s easy to see why so many women are loving a balayage hairstyle. Whoever your colourist may be, they should be able to come up with a method to give you the look you desire, while taking into consideration your colour history and condition of your hair.
At The Lounge & Co we sometimes like to employ a number of techniques in conjunction with balayage to give you the end result you have discussed with us. We feel that by considering every tool at our disposal, we can create truly beautiful hairstyles that our clients absolutely love! And not just while in the salon, but also for weeks following their visit.
Balayage has been around for quite some time, and it doesn’t look like this gorgeous hair trend is going anywhere soon. It may evolve over the years, but that’s fine! We love a little tweak on an old favourite. Remember, if you do decide to invest in a new colour, heed the advice of your colourist regarding their aftercare suggestions. Lightening hair whether with traditional foils or with balayage will dry your hair out. So, make sure to use the salon recommended products.
As with any colour service we always recommend a thorough consultation first. Feel free to reach out to our team of Brisbane Hairdressers for an obligation free consultation.
